170. Know all men by these presents, that I John S Knowles of East Greenwich County of Kent and State of Rhode Island for and in consideration of the sum of three thou- sand dollars to me well and truly paid by Haullet & Page of South Kingstown County of Washington two and State of Rhode Island in the ratio of four fifths and John W May of North Kingstown of said County and State in the ratio of one fifth the receipt whereof i hereby acknowledge as hereby release, remise and forever quit claim unto the said Page and May the whole right title etc etc my right title etc etc and interest to the following described premises Page the Homestead of the family of the late Samuel DuBois of Charlestown, in said Washington County, containing about 140 acres to the same more or less and as follows is bounded as follows beginning at the house formerly used by Jose- ph DuBois the same boundary hereby maintained by survey’s return from J Knowles Law and notary of Bristol County in Massachusetts here After Northly in south J Knowles Law and notary on the road to the State of Connecticut beginning with all chains and measure by linkage on the road to the State of Connecticut beginning with all chains and measure by linkage Carolina frame to date sole have over to tell a hole the same to the side of R Page & May in the ratio of four fifths and John W May in the ratio of one fourth their Heirs and Assigns forever together with the buildings the conveniences and appurtenances to the same belonging And I the said John S Knowles do for the consideration above mentioned do for myself my Heirs and Assigns surrender up and forever quit claim all my right title etc etc and interest in the premises aforesaid And I Elizabeth R Knowles wife of said John S Knowles independent John S Knowles independent Elizabeth R Knowles hereby grant release and surrender all my right of dower and power of this of land to the aforesaid premises to said Page and May and their Heirs and Assigns forever In Witness Whereof we the inhabitants here hereto set our hands and seals this twenty seventh day of January in the year 1857 John S Knowles L S Elizabeth R Knowles L S By John C Brown State of Rhode Island and Providence Plantations Kent ss East Greenwich Jan 27th 1857 Before me John C Brown Public Notary appeared said John S Knowles and Elizabeth R Knowles his wife personally appeared and severally acknowledged the foregoing instrument to be their free act and deed Before me Husband for Hanna March 11th 1857 at 3 Petuk P.H Recorded March 14th 1857 by Charles Cross C Clerk
