I further certify that I know him the person who made the said acknowledgment to be the individual described in and who executed the above instrument. Charleston December 18th 1851 By Charles Cross J.C. Whereas the General Assembly of the State of Rhode Island at this June Session 1849 authorized Caleb Stanton Profile Stanton and and their heirs Tenants members of the Portuguese settlement of Freetown to sell their homes and houses of a certain lot of Land lying within Charleston in the Town of a dwelling house in it and then formerly belonging to Henry Stanton’s Grand also to Benjamin Congdon and to separate and convey and deliver the same Now therefore know all men that I Joseph Stanton by the authority of the aforementioned said act and by virtue of a Power of Attorney given to me by Caleb Stanton and wife and others at a certain date in the town of Providence State of Rhode Island on the 21st day of September 1850 authorizing and empowering me to sell the right and title and interest in the said land and to execute and deliver a deed to me sell his right and title and interest in the said land and to execute and deliver a deed of my name I am authorized to convey the sum of the mentioned houses but by my name Thomas Stanton’s children and grandchildren the receipt whereof acknowledges the Said Joseph Stanton’s children and grandchildren sell and convey forever all
