Behind it stands the reserved tract of 1709 — the Narragansett reservation, about 64 square miles, carved out of the roughly 130,000 acres of "vacant lands" Ninigret quit-claimed to the Colony on 28 March 1709 (State Records, Land Evidence 3, p. 273; Tucker 1877, pp. 23–24) — and, before the reservation, the Narragansett country itself. State of Wisconsin County of Columbia SS Know all men by these presents that I Jonas Comstock Justice of the Peace in and by me lawfully petitioned approve the above seal and signing Witness Elizabeth Shelly to me known acknowledging that she has executed the same and foregoing instrument a power of Attorney proxy for the uses and purposes therein named as appeared by witness whose presence I have performed my seal and sign and seal the day and year above written Witness [signature] Jonas Comstock "Attest Pollie Belknap Columbia State of Wisconsin" [seal] Whereas the General Assembly of the State of Rhode Island and Providence Plantations at their session April 22nd 1858 Authorized Elizabeth Shelly a member formerly of the Samajonai tribe of Indians in Charlestown settlement in the State of Wisconsin to sell and convey to her nephew William H. Moore citizen in the State of Wisconsin to sell and convey a piece of land lying in the Indian Settlement at Charlestown according to the laws and direction of the Indian Commissioners of said land all her right title and interest in a certain tract of land known as the Marriage settlement while continuing about five acres more or less ad 36. And now know all men by these presents that I William H. Moore citizen homotopy as aforesaid and in accordance with the laws and direction of John Mulford the Indian Commissioners as aforesaid and in consideration of the sum of Seven Dollars received to my full satisfaction and of my love affection for my cousin Elizabeth Shelly and her heirs lawfully acknowledged or heirs general gave sell and convey in my sole Capacity as her attorney all her right title and interest which my cousin Elizabeth Shelly had over one certain piece of land lying in the Indian Settlement at said Charlestown containing about five acres the North boundary as follows on
